Dr. Tony Alberts, Principal
ISD 728 is pleased to announce that Dr. Tony Alberts has been selected as the next principal of Hassan Elementary School.
Dr. Alberts recently served as the principal of Cedar Creek Elementary School in St. Francis Area Schools, a position he held since the 2022-23 school year. Prior to this role, he gained valuable administrative experience serving as a middle school assistant principal.
"We look forward to the positive impact he will bring to the Hassan Elementary School community and ISD 728 through his history of collaboration and support for both students and families. We also see Dr. Alberts as a great leader for our award-winning staff at Hassan Elementary," said Dr. Andy Almos, Superintendent of ISD 728.

These diverse experiences have shaped his student-centered leadership philosophy, which emphasizes the importance of building meaningful relationships, setting high expectations, and fostering inclusive school cultures.
In his current role at Cedar Creek Elementary, Dr. Alberts has led his school to meaningful growth in academic achievement, a reduction in student behavior incidents, and a significant increase in staff satisfaction. These improvements reflect his strengths in collaboration, data-driven decision-making, and fostering a safe, inclusive, and rigorous academic environment.
Dr. Alberts is committed to creating school communities where students thrive, educators feel empowered, and families are active partners in learning. His leadership is characterized by collaboration, thoughtful planning, and a relentless focus on what is best for students.
Our Administrative Intern: Nicole Johnston

Nicole Johnston has dedicated her career to ISD 728 since 2011. During her first 13 years in the district she proudly served as an Elementary School Social Worker. Nicole now takes on a new opportunity as she joins the administrative team at Hassan Elementary School. As a member of the community and former Hassan parent, Nicole is dedicated and committed to our students, families and staff.
During Nicole's career she has played an integral role in supporting our students through social, emotional and behavioral challenges and learning opportunities. She has helped create a safe space for parents to learn and grow with their children. In addition, Nicole has become a CATALYST Coach to help support and coach our teachers in their classrooms. It is Nicole's philosophy to work together and lead with her heart through empowerment and celebration of all humans...little to big! While Nicole's undergraduate work through Saint Cloud State University was focused on Social Work, her double Master's Degrees through Saint Mary's University are specialized to the field of Education.
Nicole brings knowledge, excitement and a love for children. She cannot wait to welcome each of you to Hassan Elementary School. Nicole lives within our community with her husband and three children. During her free time you can find her in her garden, hanging out with her backyard chickens or cheering her kids on at their swimming meets, basketball and soccer games. She welcomes you to come say hello and cannot wait to meet you and your family!
